Sophie van der Stap

Sophie van der Stap is a Dutch author whose work explores the intersection of human experience and the natural world. Her internationally acclaimed memoir The Girl with Nine Wigs reached readers in more than twenty countries and was adapted into a feature film. It tells her story navigating cancer at 21 by reinventing herself through different wigs, exploring identity, resilience, and the many ways to face illness. (The international theater rights are currently available for adaption). Today her work bridges storytelling, science, and conservation, bringing to life the stories of scientists and explorers dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems. Through her writing, she aims to reconnect readers—young and old —to the wonder and urgency of the living world. Her work combines narrative depth with a deep commitment to environmental awareness. She’s currently immersed in writing Whale Warriors (for middle grade) and crafting a collection of short stories (for adults) that explore the profound encounters between humans and the living wild.
